Alex Broome of Lipscomb Academy Named 2021 Recipient of Bob Sullins Inspiration Award

The Bob Sullins Inspiration Award is in honor of Sullins’ long-time service to this chapter which includes serving as president for more than a decade. It is presented to a Middle Tennessee high school student for his outstanding academic and athletic achievement and who serves as an inspiration to his teammates, his classmates, and members of his community. The recipient of this year’s Bob Sullins Inspiration Award is Alex Broome from Lipscomb Academy. Broome, the son of former Stratford High and Tennessee State running back Arcentae Broome, who is now the coach at Overton High School. He is also a running back who led the Mustangs to their first state championship since 2007. He had 2,205 all-purpose yards and 41 touchdowns and was the Division II-AA Tians Mr. Football honoree. Speaking of statistics, Broome did not have a fumble in his junior or season seasons.

He was named most valuable player in the state championship game after rushing for 138 yards and having 23 receiving yards and scoring two touchdowns. Broome, who also starred on special teams, is headed to Boston College on a football scholarship. He also was recruited by Vanderbilt and Princeton. He plans to pursue a degree in engineering. When asked about his success after the state championship game Broome was quick to credit his entire offensive line and mention each one by name to the media. As impressive as he was on the football field over the last two seasons, Broome was just as outstanding in the classroom where he has a 4.0 grade point average.
