Jacob Clevenger Named 2021 Recipient of Clark/Brunette Spirit Award

The Harold “Cotton” Clark / Scott Brunette Spirit Award is presented to a student outside of Davidson County who exemplifies the highest qualities of sportsmanship. The award is named in honor of two former longtime executive secretaries of the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame whose behind-the-scenes work was invaluable to this chapter.

Fairview standout Jacob Clevenger is this year’s recipient of the Harold “Cotton” Clark / Scott Brunette Spirit Award. Clevenger was best-known on the field for his astonishing versatility. He played linebacker, defensive end, running back, fullback and tight end while also starting on all special teams. He made the TSSAA All-Region 6-AAA Team as a fullback as a senior after making the same team as a linebacker as a junior. He was the team’s MVP as a senior. Clevenger proved his versatility off the football field by also being a four-year letter winner and state champion on the wrestling team, two-year letter winner on the soccer team and three-year letter winner in concert band.

He was equally outstanding in the classroom carrying a 4.4 weighted grade point average. Clevenger lives on a farm where he raises and sells cattle. He is in the 4-H club and works on the farm each morning before the sun rises then shows up early for school so that he can spend time in the weight room. He was a captain on the football and wrestling teams. Coach Chris Hughes said Clevenger’s work ethic is unmatched and the best he has ever seen.
